"maakuu shughul?" I often ask when he spends eight hours playing video games. He just smiles and shrugs in response.

But in the car, he is a different person. Motivated, energetic ... ambitious. 

"ogaf!" I scream as he starts accelerating well beyond the speed limit.

"diir baal-ik!" I cry as we try to overtake yet another tankar bawlah.

"7u6 baal-ik!" I shriek as a Pajero steams towards us. We're in the wrong lane. akiid.

To all this, he just laughs and shrugs. "3aadii, maafii mushkillah."

Just another standard day of driving in Kuwait.
